[[GZ] Dream Trance]

The reason that BLR thinks it sounds so much like Dreamscape: both songs have progression that is just so damn generic. It's like you're essentially going from F, to E, to C, to D (perhaps offset) for the entire song (aside from the okay-sounding synth solos). True, this pattern sounds cool, but too many songs use that same old pattern of notes.

To add to the generic-ness of the pattern, the synth sound is also generic, as is the 4/4 basic drum and bass pattern. Honestly, ask yourself: did I really put any thought or creativity into the drum or bass? You kind of just took advantage of the fact that most trance songs have that pattern. Well, guess what? Those songs are bad. They would be frowned upon by anyone who knows even a speck about music theory.

The lowdown: I would pass this song off as simply a mediocre trance song. It is generic both in sound and pattern, the synth solos are okay but sound slightly uninspired, the equalization is mediocre at best, and the song lacks a proper intro and ending. Not to say my songs are any better, but all in all I do not think this deserved top 5 of the week.

Perhaps the reason for my harsh criticism is that trance is getting old. This type of genre simply doesn't allow any room for the variation and creativity that radical genres like Dubstep, Industrial, or even Progressive would allow.

In a sense, this song is simply too "right-wing" for my liking.

Decent.

Overall it sounds really boring and repetitive, and at times the sound can be a little harsh. The constant 4th note pattern is probably the cause of this. I mean, it would have been better if you put even more of a spin on the original theme.

I would have given this a 4/5 but

I gave it a 5/5 to offset those zero-bombers. Every little bit helps, you know?

Is it sad that I can identify most of the presets used for this? Or is it a fail on your part? I can't tell.

Overall this isn't too exciting. But it's good.

Holy balls.

That was amazing. This is kind of what I was hoping to achieve with a song I was working on called "Transylvania," but I don't think it'll ever be this good. All in all this captures the essence of Halloween very, very well. I love it!

Kind of generic.

This song sounds pretty good altogether but it seems like stuff I've heard before. Especially that harshly overused "guitar" sound at around 0:26. Also, I know this is typical of trance but the drum / bass pattern is essentially the same for the whole song. All in all this nothing too new or interesting. But I gotta give you credit, it got my foot tapping to the beat.

I can't think of how this could be improved. It is close to perfection, but a mortal like me is not worthy of picking out any flaws in this. (Probably some small, stupid flaw too, like in mixing or equalization. But what would I know?)

Terrible execution.

The main idea is somewhat okay but the guitar sounds like garbage - have you tried looking up how to emulate a guitar? (It sounds like you are using Slayer or something like that.) But yeah, my ears hurt.

Also you should look up "basic equalization." It will help you with your songs in the future.

Anyhow this would be sick if you had executed it better.
